Orange Township Fire Department uses soft billing to balance financial sustainability with patient care.

Here’s how it works:

Residents (people who live in the township):

  • If you’re a resident, the ambulance bill is billed directly to your insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid.
  • If your insurance doesn’t cover the full amount, you may receive a statement showing what was billed and paid, but you won’t be required to pay the remaining balance out of pocket.
  • The unpaid portion (not covered by insurance) is written off as a benefit of living in the community, since your taxes already help support EMS services.

Non-Residents (visitors or people living outside the area):

  • If you’re not a resident, the ambulance bill will also be billed to your insurance first.
  • However, if there’s a remaining balance after insurance pays, you will be responsible for paying the difference.
